With the launch of their mobile video app Go90, Verizon was looking to position themselves at the forefront of the digital streaming landscape. Superfly leveraged the full extent of its capabilities to produce an unprecedented collection of content and deliver a network television-quality broadcast for the emerging platform.
An Epic Partnership
Through our keen understanding of the audience and deep artist relationships, we produced a show that delivered a strategic mix of live musical moments and original content, all housed on the Go90 app, giving viewers Olympic-style coverage of the Outside Lands Music Festival experience.
For 7 hours a day, real-time live coverage spanned every inch of the festival. The livestream showcased over 35 performances, explored the festival’s mouthwatering food and beverage offerings and hosted exclusive celebrity interviews with guests including Shawn White, Vince Staples, Sean Lennon, and The Muppets (yes, really!).
Lights, Camera, Go90
But festival coverage wasn’t enough– we wanted to give Go90 a true network feel and drive lasting viewership. To do this, Superfly created 4 original series, consisting of more than 40 pieces of content, that were released throughout the festival weekend. The series – Press Pass, Playing Outside Lands, Portraits, and Tastemaker – ranged from the heartfelt to the comical and all incorporated Outside Lands into their natural storylines. Additionally, we extended our reach through content and platform partnerships with Complex, Elite Daily, and AOL /Huffington Post.
This docu-style series followed Jade Gomez, an aspiring writer, as she traveled from New Jersey to San Francisco to break into the world of music journalism. Throughout the series, viewers watched as she navigated the music scene in her own Almost Famous-esque journey.
Playing Outside Lands
These behind-the-scenes pieces gave the viewer unprecedented access to bands for the pre-show prep and rituals of artists including Zedd, Vulfpeck, and Lettuce leading up to their anticipated performances in Golden Gate Park.
Portraits offered an intimate look at the wide range of people who inhabit Golden Gate Park during Outside Lands. While performers usually get all the attention and glory, we focused this series on telling the deeper stories of individuals within the festival community, from tour managers to graffiti artists, fans to attendees.
These foodie-focused spots followed Josh Elkin of Epic Meal Time around the grounds as he ate and drank his way through some of San Francisco’s finest culinary offerings. As a culinary whiz, Josh dropped food knowledge and ate it all his way.
